To help adults achieve personal goals by improving their ability to read, write, or speak English through one-on-one free tutoring from professionally trained volunteers.

Did you know that...

17 percent of adults in Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties read at level one, meaning that they have a difficult time using literacy for daily tasks, such as reading and understanding the newspaper or filling out a job application.

14 percent of adults in Lewis County read at level one (National Institute for Literacy, 1998).

Literacy of Northern New York is working to combat adult illiteracy in the North Country by matching volunteer tutors with students. If you know an adult who could benefit from our programs or if you are interested in becoming a tutor, please contact us.
