Shirley (Jefferson County)
has worked diligently during the two and a half years she has been coming to LNNY and her reading level has increased two grade levels. At home, she now reads for pleasure – magazine articles, newspapers, short stories, and novels. Shirley obtained a job not long after she came to LNNY but has continued to come twice weekly to tutoring sessions, even braving the harsh snow storms, coming from southern Jefferson County.
Evangeline (Jefferson County)
has been in the program at LNNY just over one year. During that time, Evangeline improved her level of reading by two grades. She has taken two sessions of computer classes and one session of personal budgeting. In the computer class, Evangeline learned MS Office Word and Publisher. She is a volunteer peer advocate at another agency where she received recognition for her accomplishments at LNNY.
Hannah (Jefferson County)
came from China to Watertown in May, 2008. Since that time, she has faithfully attended ESOL classes twice weekly. Within one year, she has improved her grammar skills and fluency in English conversation. Hannah also helps out by speaking at meetings and tutor trainings. Many of her friends have come to ESOL classes at LNNY based on Hannah’s recommendations.
